Alan Drew was in Turkey on 17 August 1999 when a 7.4 earthquake
shattered the city of Marmara. He has used that event as the centre
point of his culture clash novel “Gardens of Water”.
Sinan, a Kurdish shop owner is already feeling displaced before the
quake, but in its aftermath he deals with emotional family events of
an equal magnitude.
